The midnight bell rang, sometime after his third ending to the story. Her entire body quivered with a pleasant exhaustion, and her lips were swollen and tender from his kisses.

“What about you?” she said dreamily.

“What about me?” There was a distinct bulge in his linen pants.

“Don’t you need to…”

He smiled and shrugged. “It makes me very happy to watch you feeling such pleasure.”

“You’re very good at that.”

“I don’t think you have much to compare to,” he said.

“Are you saying you’re not good at it?”

He made a shocked face. “Are you?”

“Not at all.” Emboldened by the hazy warmth clinging to her, she sat up and touched his knee, letting her fingers graze up his muscular thigh. “Show me.”

He hesitated. “You don’t owe me anything.”

“I know,” she said. “Show me.”

He peeled the tunic over his head, then loosened the drawstring on his pants. A naked man was no shock after a life around shapeshifters, although she hadn’t been with a naked man who desired her. And she certainly hadn’t been near one with any intention of touching him.

He reached toward the table for the bottle of oil they’d used to cover their scent and poured a small amount in his hand. He hesitated, then poured a dollop of the oil into her hand. With her hands trembling slightly, she reached down to touch him. He let out a breathy gasp, as if she’d startled him. She recoiled. “Did that hurt?”

“Gods, no,” he said. He kissed her lips, then placed his hand near hers. “Slowly, like—" he groaned as she stroked him, squeezing ever so slightly with each rhythmic motion. His kiss was hungry, as if he wanted to devour her. His hips twitched toward her, and she continued her gentle, slow rhythm. “It’s been a while, so I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry.” His hand tangled into her hair, pulling her closer. “Is this right?”

His response was a quiet moan against her lips. As his tongue teased hers, she released him and ran her fingers over his inner thighs. “Don’t stop,” he groaned. “Please.” The hunger in his voice emboldened her. She walked her fingers under him, teasing at his thigh before returning to the slow stroking. He broke away from the kiss, his head lolling back as he drew a sharp breath.

It was hypnotizing to watch the silent working of his lips and the flutter in his eyelashes. Each tremor of pleasure that trembled through him was her doing. He was all hers in that moment, completely under her control. She kissed the side of his throat, and felt the thrumming pulse beneath his warm skin.

Suddenly his hands fisted into the bedding, and he gasped. His hips twitched forward as warmth spilled over her hand. Still gently caressing him, she leaned forward and brushed a kiss across his jawline.

“Well?”

He peeked through heavy-lidded eyes and smiled. “That was the best thing you could have done for me.” He kissed her again, then got up, carefully tucking himself back into the linen pants. “Give me a moment.
